My Love Affair with Kinky-Curly Spiral Spritz!!!!

I've noticed I tend to fall in love with a new hair product every month. This months product obsession is my Kinky-Curly Spiral Spritz! Since it is nearly impossible for me to keep my hands out of my hair for long periods of time, I dry twist my hair almost every night. As a result, it's important that the styling products I use be super clean.

Kinky-Curly's Spiral Spritz is advertised as a "All-natural styling serum that can be used daily to style fine wavy hair or refresh and moisturize thicker curlier hair types" and I couldn't agree more. The spritz moisturizes like a leave in conditioner and holds like a gel with no film or build up, making it perfect for dry setting. What I love most about my Spiral Spritz is that I don't walk around feeling like I'm leaving Soul Glow stains every where. Greasy hair is not the business... Have you tried Kinky-Curly Spiral Spritz? What did you think?

So in Love: Eco Styler Gel

I  am not into purchasing then experimenting with pricey hair products, so Eco Styler gel was right up my alley at 8ozs for 99cents. The beauty supply had three different holds, so of course I got all of them. Not one of them has let me down yet.
The pink medium hold I love for my dry braid and twist outs. I alternate between the pink styler and  pure aloe vera gel. Crystal maximum hold gel, I use for wet sets and slicking my hair down. Eco styler's extra maximum hold brown gel is awesome for my edges and my super curly nape hair. The lovely ladies on my Houston Naturals facebook page told me about Eco Styler w/ Olive Oil too! I will definitely be seeking that out on my next visit to the beauty supply.
What are your favorite stylers or gels? Have you tried Eco Styler Gel?

Diana Ross - Workin' Overtime

First, let me say that I did like this song, I don't care what you say. BUT, Diana Ross doing the running man? What were they thinking? She was letting us have it with the signature textured wig too. Hilarious!!!

Big Choppers Remorse...

When I first big chopped the biggest adjustment for me was length. I hated having short hair. More, I hated not having hair long enough to cover my considerable forehead. Lol! Even when my hair was short and relaxed I always had my swoop. I knew I wasn't prepared to fight those two textures with a lengthy transition, so short was my only option. My wig and hair piece phase was cool for a while, but even though I didn't like my cut, I wanted to be natural. Obviously, I was going to have to work at accepting my reflection in the mirror.

One day I was feeling particularly down and I was laying around watching reruns of Law&Order: Criminal Intent and an actress I was familiar with caught my eye. It was Tawney Cypress from Hero's. I had always admired her big natural curls from the show. The thing was though, on this episode of CI her hair was short. I immediately checked the date of the episode and it was just 3 years earlier... For some reason that was so comforting to me. This woman who I did not know, with hair nothing like mine gave me such a boost, just because I saw that her hair grew. Random right? After that "ah ha moment" I started collecting images of naturals with textures more like mine with lengths I aspire to. They are my reminders that hair grows.

If you are experiencing what I went through, I encourage you to find whatever motivates you and nurture it. Looking at those pictures worked for me. Natural hair blogs and youtube also made a huge impact. What ever your woes; give it time. If it's your texture, learn how to keep it healthy and looking it's best and acceptance will come. Trial and error is inevidable, but that is how you educate yourself. Frustration is not uncommon and satisfaction may not come overnight but you will get there. My hair has grown a lot since that big chop and  my goal length is still a couple of years away. Those down days still rear their ugly head from time to time too, but some days I am just in awe of my kinky curls. I have even made peace with my huge five head. It's mine and just as much a part of me as this natural hair on my head...

Did you have or do you have BC remorse? What are/were your concerns and how do you stay motivated?

What Went Wrong???

Bad blow out...
On Houston Naturals on Facebook spoke about wanting to blowout my hair this weekend and I finally got around to it, but Ack! What happened??? Usually my blow outs are smoother and fluffier. I'm not understanding why this time it came out so rough and well, whomp, whomp whomp... I  follow the same routine when I blow dry. You think my trim a few weeks ago matters? Can I blame the weather maybe??

Pre trim blow out

Check out my last blow out, pre trim. I am making kind of a rabbity face, but my hair looks so much softer and smoother. :(  Sigh... Maybe I didn't deep condition long enough. I just don't know. Seriously though, what's with the face....
Dry twists on wack blow out.
I then tried to save the disastrous style with some dry twists, and It came out decent, but once again last time they came out better.
I'm not going to give up though. I re-twisted AGAIN last night! It hasn't been taken down yet, so fingers crossed....

Vidal Sassoon Sure Grip Clix

Sure Grip Clix by Vidal Sassoon

As you may or may not know I love updo's. My hair is in some sort of protective style about 90% of the time, so as a result I am always looking for different tools to pull my hair back. One such tool is the Sure Grip Clix by Vidal Sassoon. I live for these little things! What's great about them is they have twice the hold of regular clips because of the little comb attached to the back.

Back of the Clip
The comb does the work of two or three bobby pins without feeling like you are snagging your hair putting them in and taking them out. They come in 3 colors: black, brown and gold, so they blend in with the hair pretty well. If I have to use the gold clip I usually place it where my hair is longer and won't be seen. The price isn't bad either. Most drugstores price them at $2.99 for a package of 6. This week however, Wallgreens had them on sale for $1.99. I think I use this hair accessory more then my spin pins. Have you tried Sure Grip Clix? Let me know what you think about them?
