Troy Polamalu's Million Dollar Hair

Troy Polamalu for Head and Shoulders
Head & Shoulders has taken out a $1 million insurance policy on Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu's hair. I find everything about this fascinating. Although, I must admit, I really don't know what that means...Well, I know what it means, but I guess I just wonder what insurance on hair entails.
Below is a clip of him giving a quick overview of his haircare regimen. I would of defiantly had some follow up questions but the reporter, based on his disclaimer, was embarrassed to ask even the initial question. Lol! What do you think? Is that what million dollar hair looks like to you?

Houston Naturals: Wedding Pics

Wedding Hair
Well I ended up styling my hair in a basic pony puff for the wedding I attended. Not super creative but it got the job done. Here are a few pics from the wedding. It never occurred to me how many natural friends my mother has too. So of course I had to share...

Me and My Mommy

Play Aunties Jeanette and Vanessa with My Mommy

Play Auntie Ruth and Bill
Aunt Ruth is also relaxer free. I believe she achieves this look with a set and wrap. I might need to sit down and plan an interview with her. Lol! Oh and check out the flyy natural in the background rocking the black flower :)

A great time was had by one and all! Prayers and best wishes go out to the bride and groom.

Wedding Hair...

No I'm not getting married tomorrow, but I am going to a wedding. So once a again I'm trying to decide what to do with my hair. I wanted to hold on to my doo from the other night, but ultimately had to give in to my need to run water through my hair at least once a week. Any who, my dress probably didn't go with that style anyway so it's back to the drawing board. Pretty sure this new look will involve spin pins too in some way, shape, or form, or maybe banana clips. I liked this video by naturalcurlz86 ...

You all have any ideas?

Do you deep condition?

Hands down my favorite deep conditioner is Pantene Relaxed and Natural Deep Conditioning Mask, but it's beginning to get kind of hard to find. Being the product junky that I am I usually like to have 2 or 3 or 10 alternatives. Do you deep condition? What are your favorites?

My Big Chop

My Big Chop
I have been natural for a little over a year now and this is where I started. I transitioned for about 2 or 3 months and then one day during a particularly trying detangling session I brought out the scissors. Pictured above and below is what I ended up with. Lol! Now I am in no way endorsing do-it-yourself big chopping, but I will say there was no going back after this...

What's funny is I looked super excited about this hair cut, and initially I guess I was. That soon faded once I woke up the next morning and realized, so yeah... I cut all my hair off and I still have this forehead. To make matters worse this was a new head of hair with a new set of needs and maintenance. I missed my doughnut! I would say for about 3 months I was rocking knit hats in every color, design and fabric. I had a royal blue one that I was particularly fond of.

I also had an assortment of Quick wigs and homemade ones! Yes y'all, I made some wigs! Lol! Shout out to youtube!
Out and about in my homemade wig
It really took a lot of encouragement from friends and family to just go for it, and with the help of a doubled up goodie elastic head band I finally shared my hair with the world. Did I love it? NO! It was growing on me though... Tell me about your big chop!

Beer Rinsing

After reading about beer rinsing on maneandchic.blogspot.com I was all in. So today I drove to the corner gas station and purchased a 8oz can of Budweiser and a twix. Not being a beer drinker this was no simple task for me. It took all that was in me not to explain to the cashier I was using the beer for my hair and NOT an end of day unwind. In my head, the twix kinda clued him in, as opposed to say a carton of cools, cause that’s what I’d get if I was gonna drink beer out a bag, Right? Crazy I Know.

All that being said, the beer rinse was EVERYTHING!!!! I applyed clarifying shampoo to my dry scalp and conditioner washed it out as usual. I then poured the flat beer into my hair, which I’d sectioned off six ways, and let it sit for two minutes then rinsed. Omg, my hair was so soft and shiny, and detangling was a breeze. What’s best was very minimal shedding!!!! No wait what’s best was the curl definition!!! I applied my Pantene Relaxed and Naturals Moisture Mask after the beer because I’d read sometimes the hair may feel sort of dry after, although that was not the case for me. Needless to say, BEER will absolutely be added to my hair regimen.
